Risk of Fatal Stroke Rises with Each 18 mg/dl Rise in 2 hr GTT

Page Changed: Research Connecting Organ Damage with Blood Sugar Level

Added citation to newly published study lasting 38 years which found that over the 38 years, with each 18 mg/dl (1 mmol/L) rise in the 2 hour GTT result over 83 mg/dl (4.6 mmol/L) the risk of having a fatal stroke over this period rose 27%. The GTT used 50 grams of glucose, not the 75 that is now standard.

Even after adjustment for other factors that might contribute to stroke the rise in the 2 hour GTT was significantly related to the risk of a fatal stroke.

This is a strong pointer to the idea that 83 mg/dl at 2 hours after eating is true normal.
